The S & Training bay is a unique Genrec Management initiative which combines training whilst producing high quality construction steel components.
Purpose:
- To function as a fast, light production facility – focus is on quantity, quality & speed.
- To introduce apprentices to a fast paced production environment.
Objectives/goals
- To reach our light structural steel capacity by achieving 80 tons per month to cost, quality & time criteria by August 2011.
- To implement a fully operational 2nd shift by end October 2011.
- Cost saving – to operate within budgetary constraints.
- Continuous improvement – innovations.
- Reduce LTIFR rate by 50% year on year.
- To manufacture & supply 80 items/day – 1600 items per month.
- Meet quality expectations & requirements, the first time, every time.
- To manufacture & produce small structural items – 250kg X 3.5m long.
- To introduce, implement & maintain MDWT principles & standards.
- To absorb the backlog in the main workshop on all “smalls”.

Purpose
- To train & qualify apprentices – 18 month AATP. (A – accelerated, A – apprentice, T- training, P – program.)
- To enhance the quality of apprentice training & production S Bay
- To tst & evaluate all new Boiler-makers, Welders & Fettlers.
- To supply the main workshop with quality artisans/employees when required.
- To re-train & re-evaluate Boiler-makers, Welders & Fettlers who are not up to the required standard.
Objectives/goals
- To ensure a high standard of work skills development for all employees.
- To retain world class qualified artisans after the initial apprentice training period.
- To introduce, implement & maintain MDWT principles and standards.
- Skills development for:
- 1st & 2nd line supervision.
- Multi skilling – all S bay personnel.
